We are delighted to be sponsoring Rosie, a Trainee Guide Dog for the Blind and seeing her progress through her training.
Despite the coronavirus, Rosie has embraced all the challenges being given to her with great enthusiasm and success, says her Puppy Walker.
Rosie has become incredibly affectionate and loves being with people, although apparently she can be quite stubborn at times, which isn't always a great trait in a Guide Dog! Luckily, Rosie's Puppy Walkers are very experienced and know exactly how to motivate her.
Normally Rosie would be out and about experiencing the world and getting used to it, but this hasn't been really possible. So now she has had a dedicated training camp set up in her back garden where she can learn to navigate around traffic cones as she would other obstacles in the street.
She has also been learning to be comfortable around people wearing face masks and luckily, she doesn't seem bothered at all!
She's also managed to spend some time socialising with puppies and staying calm when she encounters other dogs. But as she hasn't had a chance to meet many new people yet, apparently as a result she can be quite enthusiastic in her greetings. Her Puppy Walkers will be working closely with her to calm this aspect of her personality down as she gets older.
We hope that Rosie will soon get to experience busier environments, such as shopping centres and cafes but this will be dependent on lockdown restrictions. However, they are doing their best to adapt her training despite a few constraints.
Rosie is progressing well and we hope you have enjoyed this Pupdate. Join us again in February for more news about Rosie!
